“preservation and protection for future generations”

Partner Organizations

The ACCWT (Appalachian Coal Country Watershed Team) functions as an umbrella organization under the AmeriCorps*VISTA program to provide OSM/VISTA volunteers to watershed-oriented community groups (please visit the AmeriCorps web site to learn more about the basic nature of the VISTA program). Local organizations that partner with the Watershed Team not only receive an OSM/VISTA volunteer for a total of three years, but also enjoy the additional capacity-building support that the ACCWT provides: training, informational resources, access to a network of peer organizations, and more. The OSM/VISTA will assist in and initiate new, as well as previously established, educational and environmental management practices. Additionally, he/she will attempt to secure further grant funding and recruit new members and volunteers. Finally, the OSM/VISTA will identify and address the problem of AMD that exists within the watershed from pre-regulation mining in watershed where they serve.

The Little Beaver Creek Land Foundation currently has 2 OSM/VISTAs working for it. Both are assigned to the watershed from September 2009 to September 2010.
